Dr. Byron Smith, M.D. brings a new sub-specialty to Billings, Montana. He is a corneal sub-specialist by training, performing corneal transplants and treating difficult and unusual corneal conditions. Dr. Smith is also experienced in refractive surgery with certification and training on at least three different lasers and microkeratomes, including WaveFront technology for precision LASIK vision correction.
Training in Surgery
Dr. Smith received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas and completed his residency in neurology and general surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. He then went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kansas. He performed his fellowship in corneal and anterior segment surgery at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City.
Dr. Smith brings with him a great amount of experience and expertise. He was formerly an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Kansas where he was director of residents’ training in cataract surgery. He is credited with a long list of accomplishments including involvement in several laser research projects and the development of computer software specific to the needs of his specialty. He is a huge asset to our medical community and is looking forward to using his knowledge and skills to help those needing his care.
