During cataract surgery your eye’s natural lens is removed. This is necessary because the protein build-up on the lens cannot be separated from the lens. After the lens is removed, your cataract doctor will insert a new lens to restore clear vision.
At The Eye Clinic Surgicenter, we are always researching the latest lens options for our cataract patients. The Alcon AcrySof® IQ Vivity™ Extended Depth of Focus lens is an option that can provide a continuous, extended range of vision. In fact, many cataract patients don’t need glasses after surgery with this lens. There is even a version of this lens (toric) that can address pre-existing astigmatism as well. Vivity is the first and only non-diffractive extended depth of focus intraocular lens (IOL) that incorporates X-WAVE™ technology to stretch and shift light entering your eyes for clear vision.
Vivity’s non-diffractive technology may also provide:
- Sharper vision in bright and dim lighting
- Reduction of halos, starbursts or glare
- Better vision for nighttime driving
- Protection from damaging UV rays and blue light
Vivity Isn’t Right for Everyone
Our team will need to assess your health in order to let you know if you’re a good candidate for the Vivity lens. We may suggest a different option if you have certain eye conditions (dry eye, infections) or overall health concerns (autoimmune diseases).
Is the Vivity Lens Worth the Investment?
Most of our Vivity patients agree that the investment they make into their vision is life-changing! Unlike a monofocal lens, the Vivity lens does have some out-of-pocket expenses. According to patient feedback gathered from Alcon, 90% of patients who invested in the Vivity lens were satisfied with their results and 93% would recommend the lens to others.
